No Fee Scrap Metal Collection In The Mole Valley & Cobham Areas.
Why are some scrap metal collections free? Read more below.
As most people will know, some scrap metal has value as the metal can be used to create items again and unlike materials such as plastics, metal requires lots of energy and resources to create more.
However, there are two main types of scrap metal, ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Non-ferrous metals are normally higher value and we will always collect these for free. If you want to know how to identify what type of metal you have, read on, or click here to jump there now.
If my scrap metal is worth money, shouldn't I be selling it?
Unfortunately, not all scrap metal is worth cash and while some of the scrap metal we collect generates some revenue, many other items don't. Unless you have something made of tonnes of metal, such as a car, it's unlikely to be worth your while selling it directly to a scrap yard.
Non-ferrous scrap metal is the only material that we collect free of charge, and all other areas of our waste clearance services are paid for services. Taking more valuable scrap metal away free of charge effectively pays for our time and fuel in collecting it.
Even Free Scrap Collection Requires A Waste Carriers License.
Ensure whoever collects your scrap metal can prove their credentials.![Image](https://i0.wp.com/surreywasteremoval.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/waste-note.png?resize=900%2C675&ssl=1)
Imagine you ask someone to collect your scrap metal, only for them to decide it's not worth anything to them and they fly-tip it in the countryside. Any items that could be traced back to you could get you in trouble and you may even get a fine.
You should always ask for proof of a waste carrier's license when you get a scrap collection.
Check out our reputation. We've made a good name for ourselves.
We understand that over the years the 'the scrap man' has developed a less than desirable reputation.
We believe that the waste clearance industry should be as reliable and professional as any other service and have spent time and energy in delivering quality customer service and building a great reputation.
What types of materials count as 'scrap metal'?
Below we will show you how to identify metals that are usually considered 'scrap' and therefore useful in the reuse and recycle process.Scrap metals are the combination of used metals, metallic materials, and any products containing metal that can be recycled from previous use or production. These include vehicles, building materials, and industrial equipment. They are often sold for their scrap content alone, but they may also contain valuable components within them - for example, some car parts may be worth more than the entire vehicle itself - if it were scrapped as an entire metallic item.
Some scrap metal has a higher market value because it can be reused again and again. For example, an electrician may have old wire and electrical equipment, plumbing companies use copper pipes and brass fixtures, and building firms often have beams of steel that they could give a second chance at life. Some of these can either be directly reused, or easily converted into parts again.
All too often, however, they're just thrown away because there isn't sufficient knowledge of value or how to dispose of scrap metal correctly.
Ferrous and non-ferrous metals
Before recycling any scrap metal, the first important step should be to determine whether the material is ferrous or nonferrous. This is an easy task and requires only a simple tool - a strong magnet. If the object attracts the magnetic field and is therefore considered magnetic, it is likely to be ferrous. If the object is not magnetic, then it is likely be non-ferrous.
Non-ferrous metals include those that don't contain any ferrous metal (such as steel) and are less likely to rust than others.

Non-ferrous scrap metals for recycling.
So what about ferrous metals?
While we can't collect them for free, we can still take them off your hands. If you have ferrous scrap metal in any quantities, we charge a basic call out charge and for certain items, we add an additonal fee per item. Here are a few examples:
Tumble-dryers, washing machines, microwaves and dishwashers are charged at £10 per item + our call out fee.
Our call out fee is based on your location, so please contact us for more accurate pricing.
